About Me

Holistic Counsellor Specialising in Healing Daughters of Narcissistic Mothers in Melville

Hi, I'm Erica

Erica Takeabayashi Holistic Therapist

I’m a holistic counsellor based in Melville, specialising in supporting daughters of narcissistic mothers to find clarity, calm, and self-trust.

For a long time, I didn’t have the words for what I was living through. I just knew the feeling of walking on eggshells, the pressure to be the “good girl,” and the heaviness of guilt any time I dared to choose myself.

Like many of the women I now support, I became capable, independent, and high-functioning on the outside. However, on the inside, I felt small, confused, and disconnected from my own needs.

My healing journey unfolded slowly, through therapy, somatic work, breathwork, and learning how to read the language of my own body. Over time, I rebuilt emotional safety, learnt to set boundaries without drowning in guilt, and reconnected with my authentic self.

It completely changed my life.

And now, this is the work I am here to guide you through.

Will I Ever Be Enough?

Growing up with a narcissistic mother often plants a quiet, persistent question in your mind: Will I ever be enough? Enough to be seen, loved, or accepted without performing, perfecting, or holding everything together. This doubt doesn’t appear out of nowhere. It comes from years of emotional unpredictability, minimisation, or conditional love—experiences that teach you to abandon yourself to stay safe.

Women raised in these dynamics often carry chronic self-doubt, guilt for having needs, hyper-independence, people-pleasing, perfectionism, difficulty trusting their instincts, emotional invisibility, and a nervous system that’s always bracing for the next shift. These aren’t flaws. They’re intelligent survival strategies your younger self created to maintain safety and connection.

This is why I choose to work specifically with daughters of narcissistic mothers. You deserve a space where your story is understood without explanation, where your body’s responses make sense, and where you can reconnect with who you are beyond the roles you were trained to play. When you start viewing yourself through compassion, clarity, and self-trust, the old question—Will I ever be enough?—begins to dissolve. And that’s where the real healing begins.

How I Work

Holistic Counselling Melville

My counselling approach integrates mind, body, and intuition. It is supportive, compassionate, and also directive when needed. I won’t sit back and simply nod. I will guide you, help you understand patterns, and offer tools to move forward.

Somatic Awareness

I help you reconnect with your body so you can soften hypervigilance, access your intuition, and regulate your nervous system.

Breathwork & Movement Therapy

These tools help you release stored survival energy that talk therapy alone cannot reach.

Evidence-Based Therapies

I weave in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Compassion-Focused Therapy to help you gently shift long-standing patterns and heal core emotional wounds.

Intuitive Healing

Using breathwork, visualisation, and body–mind practices, we uncover deeper layers of conditioning and reconnect you with your authentic self.

If you are new to these approaches, here is a little context. Somatic therapy works with the body as a doorway to healing, recognising that stress, trauma, and emotional pain are not just held in the mind but stored in the nervous system and tissues. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps you build a different relationship with difficult thoughts and feelings, so they no longer dictate your choices. Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) gently addresses the deep self-criticism and shame that many daughters of narcissistic mothers carry, replacing it with warmth and self-understanding. And Narrative Therapy invites you to separate your identity from the painful stories you were handed in childhood, so you can begin to author your own.

My Professional Background

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent 15 years working with the body, as a Pilates instructor, and remedial massage therapist. This taught me that emotional experiences are held physically and that healing must include the body, not just the mind.

I hold a Master’s in Counselling from the University of Notre Dame, and have completed training in:

• Breathwork & Movement Therapy for Trauma

• Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

• Theta Healing and intuitive modalities

This blend of modalities allows me to support healing at multiple levels: emotional, physical, intuitive, and behavioural.

I am a member of PACFA.

FAQs

What is holistic counselling for daughters of narcissistic mothers?

Holistic counselling for daughters of narcissistic mothers goes beyond traditional talk therapy. It combines evidence-based approaches like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Compassion-Focused Therapy with somatic awareness and breathwork, so that healing happens at every level: emotional, physical, and behavioural. Rather than simply managing symptoms, we work to understand the patterns that formed in childhood and gently, compassionately shift them at the root.

How is your approach different from traditional therapy?

Many women who come to me have already tried counselling and felt like something was missing. That is often because traditional talk therapy does not always address what the body is holding. My approach integrates mind, body, and intuition. I will not just sit and nod. I will guide you, name what I am noticing, and offer practical tools you can use between sessions. It is warm, but it is also purposeful.

Do you offer in-person and online sessions?

Yes. Sessions are available both in-person at my practice in Melville, Western Australia, and online via video. Many clients find that being able to access support from the comfort of their own home makes it easier to open up, particularly in the early stages of the work.

How long is a counselling session?

Each session runs for 50 minutes. This gives us enough time to go beneath the surface without it feeling overwhelming, particularly as we are often working with tender material.

Do you bulk bill or offer a Medicare rebate?

Counselling sessions are privately billed and do not attract a Medicare rebate. If cost is a concern, I encourage you to reach out. I am happy to have an honest conversation about what is possible during your free 15-minute clarity call.

Are you a registered counsellor?

Yes. I hold a Master's in Counselling from the University of Notre Dame and am a member of PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia), which means I practise within a professional ethical framework and engage in ongoing supervision and development.

How do I know if counselling is right for me?

If you find yourself constantly second-guessing your own feelings, struggling to set boundaries without guilt, or feeling like you have never quite been able to shake the weight of your childhood, counselling can be a profound support. The best place to start is a free 15-minute clarity call. There is no pressure and no obligation — just an honest conversation to see whether we are a good fit.

How long will I need to be in counselling?

This is different for everyone. Some clients find significant shifts within a few months. Others choose to work together over a longer period as they navigate deeper layers of healing. We will regularly check in on your progress and adjust the approach as needed. You are always in the driver's seat.
